"Eat. In the mouth."

Today was a super exciting day in the Tien household - we took Taran's new birthday wheelbarrow and harvested our first potatoes and beets out of our garden! All of us were equally excited to push aside the mounds of straw and dirt, revealing the pale, speckled kennebecs hiding in the soil. Taran was jumping all around calling out "Get another big one! Get another big one!" Many of them are still just the size of a fava bean, but a few were quite large and are now sitting on our counter waiting to be roasted with lemon thyme from our herb bed and candy onions that we picked up at our farmers market yesterday morning.

It's been an exhausting week trying to catch up with all the work we couldn't do when we were in Cleveland last week to escape the heat during the week long power outage. Joe and I are both feeling like limp rags so a kick-it-around-the-house weekend has been just perfect. Plus you never know what amazing things you'll see right in your own backyard.

  1. Hooray! Congrats on the bountiful potato harvest.

I'm always so excited to see a new post. It is kind of like birthday and Christmas rolled into one, because the pix and the writing are both so beautiful. And we get to catch up with some of our favorite people in the world! Thanks for sharing.

    1. LC - Not bountiful yet, but we have 20 potato plants so hopefully when the final harvest time comes, we'll be swimming in potatoes. I never thought I'd grow my own but they are soooo delicious and I would definitely do it again. I'm so glad you had a chance to "come over" and catch up. I'm too tired to work tonight so I'm heading over to your blog to see how your garden grows. Give the family (furry and non) big smooches for me. I miss you all so much.

  2. Sorry it took so long to finally catch up with your blog entries. Loved seeing the pictures of the potatoes! Very impressive. Glad Taran is getting some use out of his wheelbarrow. We'll have to get down to Columbus sometime soon see you guys again (and the garden in person!). xoxo, M/K/N/J
